Q: Where do I find the OBDII Data Link Connector in my car or light truck?
A:
The OBDII Data Link Connector is generally located under the driver’s side dash - and may be white or black. (On some vehicles it may be hidden by a removable panel.)

Q: Glossary
A:

Accelerometer
The device inside the RS-1000 that measures gravitational forces from hard acceleration, deceleration and turns.

Alarm Tone
A steady tone alerting the driver that an unsafe driving situation is occurring. When this tone sounds, the incident is recorded to the RS-1000's memory. This tone usually follows a Warning Tone.

Daily Run Time
Total time the engine was running each day during the download period.

Data Link Connector (DLC)
A standardized connector located under the vehicle’s front dash that is part of the On-Board Diagnostic systems (OBD-II) found in all 1996 or newer model year cars and light trucks. Since 1996, OBD-II has become the universal standard, monitoring parts of the chassis, body, accessories, and the diagnostic control center of the vehicle. The RS-1000 TEEN BLACK BOX™ uses the DLC to monitor key vehicle actions that contribute to unsafe driving conditions.

Download Period
The total length of time covered by a Processor/Memory Card download.

G (gravitational) Force
The measure of gravitational force pushing forward, backward, left or right inside the vehicle as measured by the accelerometer inside the RS-1000..

Higher Excess Throttle Percent (%)
Hardest depression of the gas pedal during the download period. On some vehicles this may indicate going up a steep hill. However, combined with High Overspeed, this may indicate road racing, etc.

Idle Time
The length of time during the download period when the vehicle's engine was running and the vehicle was not moving.

Move Time
The length of time during the download period when the vehicle's engine was running and the vehicle was moving.

OBD-II Connector
See Data Link Connector (DLC).

Odometer
Scrolling counter usually found below the speedometer that measures the distance traveled by the vehicle.

Overforce
Incident recorded when the force generated by an acceleration, deceleration or turn exceeds the alarm setting for Acceleration, Deceleration or Left/Right Turn Force.

Overforce Count
Total number of overforce incidents that occurred during the download period.

Overspeed
Incident recorded when the vehicle’s speed exceeds the Overspeed Warning and Alarm settings.

Overspeed Count
Total number of overspeed incidents that occurred during the download period.

Processor/Memory CardProcessor/Memory Card
The supplied Card used to hold and transfer setup information and driving data between the RS-1000 TEEN BLACK BOX™ and your home computer. Never connect the Card directly to your computer as the Card and your computer will be damaged. Always use the supplied USB Download Cable to connect the Card to your computer.

Run Time
The length of time the vehicle's engine was running during the download period. This is the sum of the Move and Idle times.
USB Download Cable
USB Download Cable
The provided cable used to connect the Processor/Memory Card to your computer's USB port.
Vehicle Data Link Cable

Vehicle Data Link Cable
The provided cable used for connecting the RS-1000 to your vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic connector (for 1996 and newer vehicles only).

Vehicle Run Time
The length of time the vehicle's engine was running during the download period. This is the sum of the Move and Idle times.

Warning Tone
A clicking sound similar to a Geiger counter, alerting the driver that they are beginning an unsafe situation (such as speeding or turning too fast). If the unsafe activity is reduced (i.e., if they slow down) the sound stops. If the driver ignores or worsens this situation, the Warning Tone changes to a steady Alarm Tone, alerting them of a violation and recording the incident to the "Black Box's” memory.
